Market and Value
InsertLearning is a valuable tool because it appeals to many audiences including:
-
Primary teachers
-
Secondary teachers
-
Tertiary educators
-
Private tuition teachers
-
Students
-
Parents
-
Business owners
The flexibility of adding and altering readily available content allows for the flexibility of users and therefore even business executives may find this tool useful to address market trends or draw attention to certain news articles in corporate meetings for example.
The number of users of InsertLearning went from 1,000 in 2015 to 1 million and counting as of May 2021 (Chrome Web Store, 2021)(Hogen, 2015). Which seems to demonstrate success for the browser extension as compared to most Chrome extensions fate described in Cimpanu's (2019) article below:
According to Extension Monitor, around 87% of all extensions have fewer than 1,000 installs, a number that many extension devs would consider a failure, taking into account that the Chrome browser has over one billion monthly active users, a huge potential market for any extension developer.
However, although there is a large base of potential consumers via Google Chrome, the market for browser extensions is not easy to dominate or gain profit from as most are free and some fail to remain relevant over time as displayed in the following statistics below (TechACake.com, 2021).
Pricing
InsertLearning's pricing remains the same as its initial price point as seen below making it an affordable and attractive option to schools, school boards and individuals wanting to purchase a yearly membership.
(InsertLearning, 2021)
Pricing Pros:

-
Affordably priced at its initial price point
- Monthly pricing options for the non-commitals
-
Unlimited lessons and special pricing available for schools
-
Training included for school subscription
-
Discounts for purchasing subscriptions in bulk.
Pricing Cons:
-
The free option is limited to 2 lessons
-
Individual pricing option doesn't provide training
-
Schools may not want to commit to a subscription
Profits and Comparisons
According to data found on Kona Equity (2022), the annual revenue for InsertLearning has decreased from 4 million in 2020 to 3.88 million in 2021. This is likely due to competition from a host of newer and flashier products taking over the market such as Kami for example sparked by the online-learning surge during the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
I've therefore included a comparison between the two extensions' features and prices below:
(Kona Equity, 2022)
As you can see, although the products are similar, Kami allows inserting and alterations of different static pages, PDFs and images for example to create lessons whereas InsertLearning's main difference is it allows for live alteration of internet content and therefore live feedback to students.
(InsertLearning, 2021) (Kamiapp, 2021)
The pricing options of both seem to be pretty affordable in general however, InsertLearning remains humble with a yearly subscription at less than half the price of Kami's.
Kami definitely offers some stiff competition as it has a lot of the same features along with a flashier design interface and seems to have supersceded InsertLearning already in terms of users at 9 million+ users versus 1 million+ users (Chrome Web Store, 2022). That being said, Insertlearning retains the unique value of being teacher designed for teacher use which in itself comes with a lot of appeal.
