Future Predictions

The internet shows no signs of slowing down with internet users predicted to reach 90% of the population over the age of 6 by the year 2030 (Morgan, 2019) and with Google Chrome far exceeding the competition in terms popularity of browsers according to w3counter (2022), these factors give a good base of potential future online learners and teachers to use or purchase online educational tools such as InsertLearning.

Further future educational trends set to dominate digital learning environments of the future include more personalization, learning assessment, collaboration and universal accessibility (HolonIQ, n.d.). InsertLearning seems to offer these capabilities making it a potential contender for competitors in the future educational technology realm.

However, mobile internet users and voice controlled browsers are set to supersede desktop browsers in the very near future as described in the following, “Voice-based browsers are predicted to become mainstream by next year or the next. Expect a totally different kind of browsing with Google’s Voice Control, Mozilla Scout, LipSurf, and others.” (HolonIQ, n.d.) (Finances Online, 2022).

What this means is that browser extensions may soon become a thing of the past as most people will simply use their phones to access learning content to which extensions are not compatible with.

Perhaps these reasons are why the company InsertLearning itself seems to have moved on already with one cofounder returning to teaching and the other cofounder busy with a new business venture to attend to. It also seems as the founders do not appear to push InsertLearning any further with flashier marketing or emoji options to compete with newer and similar browser extensions such as Kami. The founders might just be satisfied with their success had and achieving what they intended to do initially by creating a valuable tool for teachers in order to personalize and scaffold learning through live webpage annotations and inserts.
