What is a browser extension?

According to Brown (2014), “Extensions are mini programs that modify and enhance the functionality of the [Google Chrome] browser. They extend [Google Chrome’s] abilities by adding a button next to the address bar, which applies to the current website being viewed.”

That being said extensions can be downloaded and used for any browser although many are browser specific meaning you cannot download specific extensions on specific browsers.

What is InsertLearning?

InsertLearning is a Chrome extension that is free to try (intially) that helps to create custom, differentiated lessons from various webpages.

To use it you download the extension, sign in with your Google or Microsoft account and then you have a tool bar pop up on the side of your site that allows you to add in questions and comments, insert discussion topics, insert videos, highlight information and more (assign homework, access help, etc.).

The purpose being to transform any webpage into a learning experience making use of the vast amount of authentic sources of content on the internet and making it interactive and student focused.
